A Pep Talk By Me, For Me

This week, I got a little hurt by a boy.
The first thing I did, as I started to feel an overwhelming amount of feelings—sadness, frustration, disappointment—was whip out my journal.
It helped a ton. I was able to give myself the pep talk I needed to wipe the frown off my face and get re-energized.
That’s not to say that it’s been a linear “up and up” from there, but through the swings writing myself these little notes has been a saving grace.
Here’s the good news: when you flip your perspective to the observer in your life and get curious about your reactions, it’s a lot easier to break free from emotional traps and old patterns. And, after years of working at it, I finally feel closer to getting there.

I also believe that this shift will build resilience, making it easier to move on more quickly.
This is what I wrote to myself, for myself. It’s incredible how empowering writing uplifting thoughts on paper can be—regardless of whether or not you fully believe them in the moment.
It helps—trust me.

It’s in these moments especially that I need to remember that the universe has something better in store for me.
I just need to believe, trust, and be patient.
Mourn and move on—there’s nothing more to it.
You thought something was there. It’s not.
So, now what?
You hold your head high. You do you. You keep working to be the best version of yourself.
You keep impressing people. Exceeding expectations. Achieving more. Doing better.
Step up into your power and don’t let this shit hold you down.
